What $5,548 buys, per truck

At the bottom of the bracket, 101 vehicles, the 2027 fee is $54.93 per vehicle; at the top, 1000 vehicles, it is $5.55. The bracket you fall into is set by last year's count, so a carrier that grew from 101 to 1000 trucks during 2026 pays the same $5,548 as one that stayed at 101 all year. The reverse holds too: a carrier that shrank from 1000 to 101 still pays this bracket's fee because it operated 1000 during the year.

The edges of bracket B5

Below: there is nothing below B5. Zero vehicles is still B5.

Above: one vehicle past 1000 puts you in bracket B1 (0–2 vehicles) at $55, a step of $-5,493. The step is modest at this end of the schedule; the brackets widen sharply further up.

A hundred and one to a thousand

At this size UCR stops being a cost to think about and becomes a filing to get right: $5,548 is a rounding error for a fleet of several hundred, but a wrong count that lands a 101-vehicle carrier in B4 at $1,163 is an under-payment that a state audit can find years later. Large fleets also need to reconcile the UCR count with the power-unit figure on their MCS-150, since enforcement officers see both.

Registration years and sources

2027 registration opened on October 1, 2026. The 2027 fee also applies to every later registration year until FMCSA adopts a new table by rule. Brackets did not change between the two years shown; only the dollar amounts did, by 20 percent on average across the schedule.

Who registers in bracket B5

Large regional and national carriers, and private fleets of large manufacturers and retailers. Anyone in the bracket who is engaged in interstate commerce to any extent must register; the rule is not about how far or how often.

Based in a non-participating state? 10 jurisdictions do not take part in UCR, but carriers based there still register, through a base state the UCR Plan assigns. Find your state.
