What $333 buys, per truck

At the bottom of the bracket, 6 vehicles, the 2027 fee is $55.50 per vehicle; at the top, 20 vehicles, it is $16.65. The bracket you fall into is set by last year's count, so a carrier that grew from 6 to 20 trucks during 2026 pays the same $333 as one that stayed at 6 all year. The reverse holds too: a carrier that shrank from 20 to 6 still pays this bracket's fee because it operated 20 during the year.

The edges of bracket B3

Below: there is nothing below B3. Zero vehicles is still B3.

Above: one vehicle past 20 puts you in bracket B1 (0–2 vehicles) at $55, a step of $-278. The step is modest at this end of the schedule; the brackets widen sharply further up.

Six to twenty: the small-fleet plateau

Bracket B3 is long — fifteen vehicles wide — and the per-truck cost falls steadily across it, from $55.50 at six to $16.65 at twenty. Carriers here usually have a dispatcher and a safety person, and UCR is one line in a compliance calendar that also includes IRP renewals, IFTA quarters and the Form 2290 period. The next edge is the one to plan around: the twenty-first vehicle moves the fee to $1,163, more than three times this bracket's $333.

Registration years and sources

2027 registration opened on October 1, 2026. The 2027 fee also applies to every later registration year until FMCSA adopts a new table by rule. Brackets did not change between the two years shown; only the dollar amounts did, by 20 percent on average across the schedule.

Who registers in bracket B3

Established small carriers, from a six-truck regional outfit to a twenty-truck dedicated fleet. Anyone in the bracket who is engaged in interstate commerce to any extent must register; the rule is not about how far or how often.
