What $167 buys, per truck

At the bottom of the bracket, 3 vehicles, the 2027 fee is $55.67 per vehicle; at the top, 5 vehicles, it is $33.40. The bracket you fall into is set by last year's count, so a carrier that grew from 3 to 5 trucks during 2026 pays the same $167 as one that stayed at 3 all year. The reverse holds too: a carrier that shrank from 5 to 3 still pays this bracket's fee because it operated 5 during the year.

The edges of bracket B2

Below: there is nothing below B2. Zero vehicles is still B2.

Above: one vehicle past 5 puts you in bracket B1 (0–2 vehicles) at $55, a step of $-112. The step is modest at this end of the schedule; the brackets widen sharply further up.

Three to five: the first step up

Adding a third truck is the first time UCR gets noticeably more expensive: the fee roughly triples from $55 to $167, and it stays at $167 through the fifth truck. Spread across the bracket that is $55.67 a truck at three and $33.40 at five, so the fourth and fifth trucks are effectively free for UCR purposes. Small carriers at this size often run one or two tractors they own plus owner-operators leased on; the leased tractors count in the carrier's total if the carrier operated them under its authority.

Registration years and sources

2027 registration opened on October 1, 2026. The 2027 fee also applies to every later registration year until FMCSA adopts a new table by rule. Brackets did not change between the two years shown; only the dollar amounts did, by 20 percent on average across the schedule.

Who registers in bracket B2

Small fleets: a family operation with three to five tractors, a regional LTL feeder, a small passenger carrier running a few coaches. Anyone in the bracket who is engaged in interstate commerce to any extent must register; the rule is not about how far or how often.
